PROGRAMS - What we do

1. Advocacy Unit 
 
PANIM’s Advocacy Unit empowers pluralistic organizations and institutions, and schools, and focuses on:
A. Channeling government funding to pluralistic Jewish education  

·    Providing consultation services to encourage and assist schools and pluralistic organizations to apply for government funding for Jewish education.

·    Maintaining direct, ongoing contact with the Ministry of Education.

B. Pressing for increased government funding of pluralistic Jewish education in schools and organizations and for long-term policy changes

·    Promoting implementation of the Shenhar Report recommendations in the general school system.

·    Informing and educating policy makers, Knesset members, professionals in the Ministry of Education, municipal and national government officials, and the media.

C. The Holon Project – Putting PANIM’s model for developing Jewish identity education into operation in the city of Holon:a pilot to leverage Jewish identity education to the top of the Ministry of Education’s priorities.

D. Research – Developing a comprehensive overview of Jewish education in state schools to help evaluate curriculum and programs, and support state schools applying for government funding; and to provide data to help PANIM enhance its advocacy efforts.

 

2. Programming and Public Relations Unit

PANIM ’s Public Relations and Programming Unit focuses on:

   A. Producing events that give Israelis the opportunity to experience the vibrancy of modern Jewish culture

   Hakhel Jewish Learning Festival - Israel’s major annual happening of Jewish pluralistic culture, where lectures, panel discussions, and performances focus on the agenda at the intersection between Judaism and Israeliness.

Hakhel for Schools- An annual conference to empower educators by acquainting them with Jewish pluralism, pluralistic organizations, and the tools, teaching methods, and budgets for education toward a Jewish, Israeli, and democratic identity.

B. Sponsoring conferences for interest groups: educators, social activists, the media, etc.

·    To showcase the ongoing activities of Jewish pluralistic organizations and debate issues surrounding Jewish identity in Israel.

·    To initiate new projects related to Jewish pluralism and Judaism as culture.

3. PANIM’s Internet site in Hebrew

The main portal   to activities throughout Israel run by the pluralistic Jewish organizations and institutions working in partnership with PANIM: the place to go to find out how to get involved in Jewish renewal.

News items about the area of Jewish renaissance and related current events.

Speaking Jewish - a bank of quotes from Jewish sources emphasizing humanism, tolerance, and democracy for use by the general public, especially public figures and educators, who want to incorporate these texts in their speeches and educational materials.

Areshet Panim - a bi-weekly e-newsletter (in Hebrew) publicizing pluralistic Jewish events around the country sponsored by PANIM ’s partnership organizations, with links to articles and editorials related to the sphere of Jewish renaissance.

Information for Schools and Organizations - eligibility information and application instructions for schools and organizations seeking Ministry of Education funding for programs aimed at enhancing Jewish identity.
