Leading Israeli Publisher Brings Out New Masorti Siddur

Vaani T’fillati, a new Israeli Siddur, is on sale in bookstores throughout Israel

In an exciting breakthrough for the Masorti (Conservative) movement, a new edition of Vaani T’fillati, Siddur Yisraeli, has gone on sale in bookstores throughout Israel, thanks to a joint publishing venture between Masorti, the Rabbinical Assembly in Israel, and Yedioth Books Publishing House, the leading book publisher of Judaica for the general public.

“This is a siddur that reflects modern Israel,” asserted Rabbi Mauricio Balter, who chaired the Siddur Committee. The new, attractively designed Vaani T’fillati includes modern Israeli poetry and special prayers for uniquely Israeli moments.

“The publisher fell in love with our content and design, with the balance between tradition and change and with well thought-out explanations alongside the t’fillot. I cannot exaggerate the importance of this development to the acceptance of Masorti Judaism in Israel,” Rabbi Balter asserted. He also stressed that nothing from the classic siddur has been removed.

It is truly meant for everyone, even those who have rarely if ever held a siddur in their hands; for example, it explains when it’s time to stand and when to sit down. And instead of “sheh lo asani isha" (praising God for not making me a woman), the new siddur says “sheh asani k’ritzono” (who made me according to His will).” Instead of only “Shalom for Israel” the worshipper has the option of praying for “Shalom for the universe.”
